Books. It's always easier to tell people that a character is funny rather than attempt to hit the punchline of a joke that character would've said. But if we all simply told, books would cease to exist. And so would empathy. And feeling.

About This Quote

People tend to prefer to hear about the humor in things rather than the jokes that would be made. It’s easier to tell people about the funny part of a story or novel rather than trying to explain to them what the characters would have said or done. If we all just said, “When this character does this, it’s funny,” books would cease to exist. Then, no one would know if their favorite character was funny or not.

And without knowing if the characters were funny, we would also lose our ability to laugh at things. Empathy would be lost as well. If we can’t laugh at ourselves and at others, then we wouldn’t be able to feel for others or ourselves.

And if we can’t feel, then there’d be no reason for us to care about anything that happens in the world.
